To replace Imama Amapakabo  The Nigeria Football Federation has appointed former Super Eagles' defender and captain Joseph Yobo as assistant coach of the team. He replaces Imama Amapakabo in the three -time African champions' technical crew.  Yobo, who played for the Nigeria U20 boys Flying Eagles during the FIFA World Youth Championship (now known as FIFA U20 World Cup) in 1999, won his first cap for the the senior team in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match away to Zambia in Chingola in April 2001, and played in three FIFA World Cup finals in 2002, 2010 and 2014.  The attack -minded defender also played in six Africa Cup of Nations finals in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2013, capping it with leading  the Super Eagles to their third continental title  in South Africa in 2013. Jimi Agbaje Condemns Outright Ban On Okada, Tricycles, Urges Regulation

Jimi Agbaje, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday said the outright ban on okada and tricycles in some parts of Lagos state is not the solution to accidents and insecurity which is the primary concern of the state government. Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Agbaje who was the Lagos state governorship candidate of the PDP in the 2015 and 2019 general elections said the ban which took effect from February 1 has kept thousands of okada and tricycle riders out jobs . After about 26 days in custody court finally grants Shehu Sani N10m bail Senator Shehu Sani has been granted Ten Million naira (N10m) bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja. Coronavirus Hits Ivory Coast As One Tests Positive

Health authorities in Ivory Coast are investigating a suspected case of Wuhan coronavirus in a female student who arrived from China, officials have said. The student, whom authorities have not named, is the first person to be tested for the virus on the continent, CNN reports. The virus has killed at least 80 people in the mainland Chinese city of Wuhan. The 34-year-old student traveled from Beijing to the Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport in Abidjan on Saturday and was coughing, sneezing and experienced difficulty breathing, Ivory Coast's Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene said in statement. The student was moved to a safe location upon arrival at the airport and is currently under medical observation, the ministry said. Governor Samuel Ortom has disclosed that he narrowly escaped death when suspected armed herdsmen shot at him in his farm at Adeke along Makurdi-Naka road. Nigeria has slipped on Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index 2019, scoring 26 per cent. Nigeria scored 27 out of 100 in TI’s 2018 report but dropped by a point in 2019, making Africa’s most populous country take the 146th position. The country has also become the most corrupt nation in West Africa. This is despite the anti-corruption war being championed by Nigerian President, Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). TI’s latest report states that Africa’s most populous country like most other countries in Sub-Saharan nations has continued to witness a high rate of corruption which has now worsened due to vote-buying. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has condemned the murder of Lawan Andimi, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Wednesday in Michika local government area of Adamawa. In a statement issued and signed in Lagos, the MURIC director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, who described the killing as horrific, ungodly and barbaric, said that anyone who kills innocent people does not represent Islam. “We condemn it in the strongest terms possible. We reiterate our earlier declaration that Boko Haram is not an Islamic group, rather it is a group of misled zealots’’. The Nigerian Institute of Journalism has sacked one of its lecturers, Mr Tene John, over alleged sexual assault on one of its students, Ms Anjola Ogunyemi. His sack was announced by the NIJ in an official release signed by its Registrar and circulated on its official social media handles on Monday. Lecturers in the journalism institute confirmed the authenticity of the release to our correspondent on the telephone.   DUKEGIST gathered that Ogunyemi had accused Tene of attempting to forcefully have sexual intercourse with her in his office. Oxford Dictionary Adds 29 Nigerian Words, Expressions In January Updates

Oxford English Dictionary said it has added 29 Nigerian words and expressions in the January updates to the dictionary. “The majority of these new additions are either borrowings from Nigerian languages, or unique Nigerian coinages that have only begun to be used in English in the second half of the twentieth century, mostly in the 1970s and 1980s,” OED’s World English editor Danica Salazar said in a statement. ‘Next tomorrow,’ is one of the new entries into the dictionary. The expression is regarded as the oldest among the over 25 uniquely Nigerian words/expressions. According to Salazar, ‘next tomorrrow’ was first used in written English as a noun in 1953, and as an adverb in 1964. Kannywood, which refers to the film industry in northern Nigeria, is deemed the youngest among the lot. Others such as ‘buka,’ ‘bukateria’ and ‘severally’ also made the dictionary. UTME: JAMB withdraws 11 centres’ licences for charging exorbitant amount

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has withdrawn licences from 11 centres for charging candidates exorbitant amount in the ongoing 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) registration. Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of the board, made this known in Abuja on Tuesday, at an interactive session with stakeholders. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the stakeholders comprises – the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), banks, E-transact, Digital Partner Network, Interswitch and other service providers. Oloyede said that the proliferation of tutorial centres was a major concern as most of the centres engaged in fraud and corruption, during registrations and examinations. Oloyede said that charging above the stipulated N4,700 for the 2020 UTME registration was illegitimate and would only destroy the nation; as it was an act of fraud and corruption.
